Here's the problem: 1999 996 C2 Cab Driving Coolant light flashing Temp stable. Driver behind me pointing to ground, leak present. Got the car home. Could see where coolant splashed on the exhaust.. Refilled tank - let idle for 1 hour. No leak. Seemed to happen when I had the car at 2600RPM, which is my cruising RPM on the highway, as when at idle no issues? Durametric shows codes 1124 and 1126 and 1602, don't Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. __________________ Joe Shelton "Education is what's left after you forget everything you learned in school" - Albert Einstein

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What is the part number on your cap to the coolant tank?
Tony Part Number for Cap is PA88GF30
Doesn't sound right. PN should be this: 996-106-447-04 Pay particular attention to the -04. If your cap is an earlier version- you should replace it. The early caps allowed overheating and overflow onto the coil pak directly below. Buy the Porsche 'blue' cap and not the aftermarket black one. There have been some failures with the black -04 caps. (cap is in engine bay on the tank)
Found this rundown on Rennlist. "Four functions of the coolant warning light: 1. Engine coolant level too low -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) 2. Engine compartment temperature too high -- light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty) 3. Engine coolant temperature too high -- light is lit; pointer on the right 4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty -- light flashes rapidly (1 Hz) ; pointer on the right Note: The temperature warning in point three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" and "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously."
I just did a boatload of work on my car ('99 C4) including a new water pump and low temp thermostat. After putting everything back together and getting the car back on the road, I kept losing coolant out of the reservoir cap. I found it hard to believe because the cap (the blue ".04" cap) was only 2.5 yrs old. It was pretty obvious, as every time the car warmed up, the top of the reservoir had the clear pink fluid all around the cap. After I drove the car a few times I broke down and got a new cap (Bilstein branded). Hasn't been a problem since...Good luck
Thanks guys. Bought the Bilstein cap and solve the coolant leak issue.
