Hi folks, I see K&N, Designtek, BMC and others produce a simple air filter 'swap' that supposedly gives an extra 3-5hp. For 50 quid it seems a pretty good and easy way of getting some more power released without screwing up warranty etc... They all seem roughly the same price... Just wondering if anyone has tried them and are they easy to fit? I am assuming it is lid off, whip out old one, put new one in, lid on....or am I making it sound too easy? Cheers, Mark

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

power gains are a myth - dont expect one... just expect a super sweet noise
Even if it was a 5bhp gain, that's still less than a 2% increase in overall power. Something that I think would go amiss. However as Demonfish suggests, do it for the noise. ~ Maxie
More induction noise than anything else, although when coupled with a 'few' more components exhaust/headers/remap it can help. I use a BMC F1 in my GT3 as it 'helps' improve the noise and I like to feel it's much better for the car and helps liberate more ponies Just remember that driving your car in this weather helps, big improvements in noise and power because of the lovely cold, dense air!
Damian, you are certainly right about the cold dense air - went for a hoon  on the way to work today and she was pulling like a train
It's a simple job Mark. Unclip the oil filler neck and the 2 plastic clips for the MAF, loosen the jubilee clip at the throttle body and ease the pipe off. Then undo 7 bolts and just lift the lid off and you're away. Takes about 20 mins, start to finish.
Ive just got a BMC one as was advised to do so by very experienced tuner. Its going on the Turbo on Monday with new Cargraphic exhaust......then at 6am every morning its wakey wakey village!!! Then they can all stop wondering how I have so much nice exotica on my drive and in the garages....its because I ruddy work hard! Now get out of bed!
