Hello all, I have seen threads where people with 986 boxsters upgrade to carrera cluster. All they do is cut space for the two additional gauges. I want to do the opposite, I want to get a boxster "pod" with the see-thru part and put it on my 911. Has anyone done this before? I beleieve the dashboards are the exact same as the boxster, no? Here is a picture of what I want to do. I think all I need to do is buy a boxster "pod", cut it, and bam, upgraded to see-thru! Thoughts? Thanks https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...96_Cluster.htm What I purchased

What are you going to do to monitor volts and oil pressure?
Why in the world would you want to do that? Your life, your car....

I think yall might be misunderstanding me! I am keeping my original 911 gauge cluster, but adding the see-through portion. It would look exactly like the photo I attached but on a 911, not a boxster. When completed the mod would essentially be just the see-through portion. The original cluster shall remain. All I want is the see-through part... Oil and volt gauges will remain But yea, just making sure but are the cluster pods, meaning the thing that's my second photo, compatible with the 996 dashboard? Other than having to cut out slots for the oil and volt gauges, I just want to make sure that fits. Everything online seems to say it will, but I want to get opinion
What's up with your original one

Nothing is wrong with the original one except for it's not leather and I wanted the extended leather look. When looking, I came across that photo (1st photo) and thought it was super cool! Therefore instead of getting a 911 leather cluster pod, I opted to get a boxster cluster pod that's leather and modify it to fit 911 gauges. I know I know, blasphemous to put boxster parts on the 911, but I think the boxster cluster with the see-through portion is way cooler than the 911's. Combining them is the best of both worlds and I want that!
Bloku, it's your car so you do what you want. I get it, none of us can resist enhancing our 996. The best advice I can give you as a guy that's owned mine for 22 years is that you will find that many great ideas become ideas you end up regretting. So whatever you do with mods, make sure its with a second set of parts from ebay that you don't mind throwing away after you have cut them up and changed your mind. If it was my car, I would worry about bullet proofing the engine first and then worry about interior and exterior mods later. You want to keep the engine running in top form. If not, it becomes a very expensive paper weight.
I'd be concerned about light or reflections or whatnot reducing gauge visibility. Other than that, cool idea! I wonder if the top of the gauge pod is closed/finished on the 996 though, although if the 986 folks can put a 996 cluster in then it must be good enough. Put one of these in while you're there. https://www.rennclassic.com/product-...e-mount-bundle NMNA other than being a very happy customer.
From this To this Regret can be real

I like it! I will have to try that phone mount And yea about the top of the 996 gauge cluster being "open or not". I did some research and the top of the gauges are enclosed just like the boxster! This should be fun. I saw a boxster s today at hallet and it was cool to see what I am about to mod to. Fun stuffs
