Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi Guys Just got my brand new 07 Cayman S (6 speed) delivered 2 weeks ago. Have a couple of simple questions. 1) Always hear a small rattling noise upon starting/stopping (when the engine just starts to turn or right before it stops). Sounds like it comes from the gear box and sounds like a coulpe of metal plates clinking each other. Is that normal? 2) On taking off from 1st gear or reverse, needs to put a bit more gas and rev it higher to get moving (and prevent it from stalling). Quite unlike my 89 Carrera 3.2. Is that normal as well? Thanks in advance for the help.

U2silly: Sorry, no help here for either problem you are having. My CS requires only normal gas in first.

I can't help with the first question , but i realize what you are talking about having to give more gas...seems like a delayed reaction with having to give more gas than on other cars. It took me a while to get used to the Boxster coming from an M3. Now there are no such problems as i have moved onto my CS. In time, you will get used to it and all other cars will feel differant.

I get the rattling noise as well - it's for a fraction of a second upon a cold start or when switching off the engine. I actually think it's the exhaust rattling against the heatshield. You can recreate this if you try to drive up a slight slope with not enough revs so the engine almost stalls. This causes the exhaust to resonate/vibrate more than it would normally do so it bangs against the heatshield. I'm not sure it's anything to worry about. My CS drives beautifully. If you are worried about it then mention it to your Porsche dealer.
