Back to the old sports exhaust subject. As if it has not been exhausted! I am thinking of having the Fabspeed sports exhaust (other suggestions welcome) put on my 996 C4 cab. As much as i would like a deeper sound when accelerating away, I am worried that, when driving along the motorway I will not be able to hear the stereo or the girlfriend yakking, maybe no bad thing! Can anyone tell me about the sports exhaust sound levels when cruising along at 70-80? Particulary in a cab. Cheers Tim

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've just had my stock exhaust modified to the original non-switchable sports spec. Basically, you have a stainless-steel pipe welded on to bypass the first silencer stage. The result is practically identical to the switchable PSE, without the switch. Wish I'd done it years ago. There's no cabin resonance and it's undetectable at a high speed cruise but you certainly hear the difference when you accelerate. No obvious power gain. Cost should be around five hours labour plus the stainless steel pipe. They're available on eBay (some German outfit) but my specialist did mine. www.wrightune.co.uk
I had the fabspeeds on my old 996 Targa. Other than a slight droning at around 2,500 -3,000 rpm there was no problem. They sound more purposeful than the PSE.
