Having had an inspection on the 996 turbo I was interested in purchasing the PPI identified some small oil leaks from the cam carriers. The garage suggested this was normal for this age of car. Can anyone with a 996 turbo let me know if they too have had this identifed on their car and if so what remedy if any was suggested? The car is under Porsche wrranty, would this fault be covered by this?
I would disagree that any oil leak is 'normal' the warranty 'could' cover it ?
I should learn to paraphrase more appropriately in the future! For "normal" read "seen before on other 996 turbo engines". They indicated that this was not anything to be unduly concerned about as the leaks were few (2) and very minor, but needed to be pointed out as part of the PPI. I know engines aren't supopsed to leak oil, but doesn't sound like this will cause any catastrophic engine failure. I may ring Porsche to attempt to clarify the position regarding these types of oil leak i.e. whether this is covered by the warranty.
