Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 2000 996 cabriolet suffered the wire insulation breakdown as is well know,. I removed lenses, not for the faint of heart, and rewired. But lenses are looking bad, no amount of polishing can seem to get them back to even good. I wont spend the money for replacement xenons, so my question is: Can I plug in aftermarket replacement headlights into a xenon car? I see I have an extra socket that halogens dont have. I have the wiring diagram to see pinouts for the xenon headlights from the list, but cannot find the wiring schematic for the the regular halogens. Would I need to rewire socket, do nothing, or is it much more complicated? Thanks, Ed

POST 2Original post

I upgraded from OEM halogens to OEM Xenons and the installation was basically plug-and-play. The extra connector you pointed out is for the Xenon servo motor (it tilts to provide a taller light angle when you apply the high beams). So I would assume that in your case, simply installing the aftermarket headlamps would be enough. Despite your faded lenses, Im sure your Xenon headlamps can fetch a good amount of money on the used market.
