Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Help/advice needed please. Power steering pump has been noisy for a while and the steering at low speed is getting difficult to turn. I've been advised that e new pump is required, I've been trying to source a rebuilt or used one. There seems to be a few 997 turbo pumps around and I was wondering if these could be fitted ? Any advice would be appreciated.

Not exactly related but have you considered a cup style electric pump conversion Martin Hills' excellent video I am going this route, not for the same reason as you, I would soon have to replace the horrible hydraulic pipe system (£800 parts alone), the added factor of potential steering pump failure make it even more unattractive to me. Personally I see it's total removal along with the engine driven pump a far better and more cost efficient solution. I see the benefits as: The removal of an engine driven pump (various benefits) The movement of weight at the rear and high on the engine to the front (always good) Removal of this particular expensive service problem replacing it with, what I see as, a lesser service item I suppose the deficits are: The car is no longer standard The alternator/charging system has more work to do Front trunk loses space I think i bought all of the parts for about £400, just a thought.
