This may be a silly post : I have been looking for a 996 Turbo, and I happened to have a chance to purchase a well looked after 996 Turbo at a very very attractive price. However, the car has a Tip gearbox. I wonder if converting the Tip box into Manual one is both a financially and/or technically feasible approach. Pls help.

Technically Im not sure, financially probably not. The Manual car has to be priced above the Tip car by atleast the purchase and fitting of a manual box to a tip car, otherwise it doesn't make sense to do. I reckon best to go for the manual as I reckon the price diff is not that much to be honest.
When you think of the differences between the two cars - like gearbox, gear lever, linkage, clutch, flywheel, clutch pedal, slave cylinder, master cylinder, hydraulics (maybe the 996 is cable operated??). Even if you sourced the bits from a scrapped car, the labour involved would be outrageous I'm sure. And, after the conversion, you would have a car with a lesser value through being converted. IMHO it's not even worth thinking about, much less considering. Regards Dave
It would also be an interesting sale, as the VRN clearly states that the car is a Tiptronic S. Personally, I would look around for a manual. ...or go for the Tip, which is a very nice car in itself. Depends on the type of drive you do. If it's for the weekend only, then I'd go manual, but if you commute, then the Tip is the way forward (at least for me).
Theoretically it's possible but you will produce a car that is then worthless. We're talking a very expensive car that people study service documents to the n'th degree before buying. Telling people you've converted it from a tip to manual will put of 99.99% of buyers later when you come to sell..... Don't even think about it. Parts required simply.... gearbox, clutch, flywheel, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, different brake fluid reserviour bottle (clutch shares), clutch slave cylinder, pipework, possible ECU mods, wiring mods.... list goes on..... Silly question, yes.
Thank you all. Pls, no more reply as I don't want to waste anyone's time on this silly post.
