Had this symptom for a few mths now: - car is a weekend driver (996 C2 '00 Cab) - after resting up during the week, when I start the engine and go to pull away from my parking space, the steering 1) feels like it isnt power assisted, 2) judders when the wheels are turned and I am pulling away - these symptoms go away very quickly and never arise during the journey FPSH, last service at Chiswick in Sept. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, Josh

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Josh Is this also accompanied with a whining akin to a fan belt slipping and a low voltmeter reading ? My car if left in the pouring rain will sometimes replicate what you are experiencing. The steering will be very heavy when the car is initially started, it sounds like there is a cat stuck somewhere in the engine and the voltmeter will show a reading of about 10. A couple of gentle blips on the throttle always puts things right. I am led to believe it is just excess water on one of the belts that has come through the vents in the rear spoiler.
hmm, I had noticed fan-belt slip type noise recently, but dont know if they were at the same time. Will pay attention next time and see. Sounds like a reasonable explanation to me, especially as it only happens when left for a while (ie wont happen if i have a good solid drive, leave it 6hrs and then drive again). Fingers crossed that is the answer. I assume its okay to just let it happen?
