There has always been a slight smell in my car. After tearing things apart looking for a dash rattle, Ive found this dried up gunk under the driver and passenger side dash, near the center of the car behind the radio/hvac controls. The smell is more of a caramel type smell more than anything. When I first saw this I thought someone spilled their coffee. Now Im thinking heater core leaking. Thoughts? Nothing is wet, all these orangish/brown colored spots are chalk dry. Also, anyone know what the electrical connector in the last pic goes to?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That female plug is the connection for the optional car telephone. It is very useful as a source of switched power and ground for accessories such as a Bluetooth module, etc., and I believe it also has constant power. The male plug which comes with ~18" of wire is available and makes adding the accessories an almost plug n play.

Oh cool, thanks for the help! Its a nice night where Im at so I pulled the water core apart. Definitely leaking. Ordered new parts.
Wow, glad you found the issue before it got uglier! Good on you.
How difficult was it to get out? Complete dash removal?

No dash removal required - the heater core is accessed from the frunk. Remove the wiper blade arms, remove the windshield cowling, then remove the wiper blade linkage and unhook the heater core hoses. Then remove a foam cover that seals over the top of the heater core housing, two screwed, and it comes right out. Pretty easy, maybe an hours worth of work total to replace.
Probably want to re-do the foam on your blend door while you're in there.

Yeah Ill take a look. The previous owner told me that had been recently taken care of but honestly I havent looked into it yet.
Appreciate you posting this. I am experiencing the same thing. May I ask specifically what are you doing to fix this?

Pretty simple - heres the whole kit from FCP Euro. I have Porsche coolant in my garage and the hoses on my car look brand new, so I just ordered the core, both seals, and all the clamps just because haha. The seal that is the cover on the trunk side probably doesnt need to be replaced, mine came off fine, but for $38 I just ordered a new one with new adhesive on it. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...rsche-715306kt
