Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A leaking Rad cap is not uncommon .. any white staining around the cap is signs of a leak .. as per images .. if your cap looks like this then it's best to replace . FYI .. coolant leaks often leaves a white stain or a pink stain depending on model and antifreeze . White 996 , pink 997 .

POST 2Original post

Thanks De Mort, very useful. On the 997 am I right in thinking that there was an issue with the earlier rad caps and an improved version with a different part number was recommended as a replacement?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Very possibly ... Porsche often revise many parts and the only indication is when ordering the part number has been superseded to a new one .. There is never a list of modifications .. Porsche dont work that way .. they don't tell us basically . You need to remember .. Porsche keeps many " secrets " to its self .. to the point we are not told how some items work . Some items are because they only want to make one item and not 2 for different models .. hence a wiring loom change to adapt for different plugs .. I think this post sums it up .. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=151018 A totally new design that was never mentioned by Porsche .. its unrelated to your question but ... It sums up what Porsche do . At the end of the day .. a white staining around a rad cap indicates coolant .. or rather a gas / liquid is escaping .. thats why its not pink . The images i posted .. 997 and a 981 Cayman .. this has been going on since 996 though .
