Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It isn't an engine out job, but it is time consuming. IIRC yours is a 3.4. The book time for a 3.6 is slightly less. This is the operation description for the 3.4: Operation: 15 91 19 00 Time Units: 400 (4 hours) Description: Cover for camshaft housing removed+reinstd * Up to 2001 model * 911 Carrera * 911 Carrera 4 CONTAINS Wheel remove and reinstall Rear muffler remove and reinstall Exhaust manifold remove and reinstall Ignition coils remove and reinstall Spark plugs remove and reinstall Oil return pipes remove and reinstall Oil suction pump remove and reinstall Covers f. camshaft housing rem+reins Oil pressure switch remove and reinstall Engine oil drain and fill
Thank you Richard, car is a 2002 3.6 996 Cab in Guards Red, as it appears that the exhaust has to be removed, looks like a good time to replace the rusting silencer boxes (already the nuts have rusted away ) ..... more expense ..... I think car also needs an aircon rad as well as it is showing some staining ..... but he what price fun ........ FYI drove a new Boxter S the other day, I recon it handles better than my Carrera!
