Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Finally happened. 2007 Cayman S, driving down road, shifted out of 3rd, wouldn't go into any gear. Managed to coast off road. Will go into gear with engine off so not the dreaded cable failure. I guessed clutch slave cylinder. Turns out, sadly, I was right. Amazingly, dealer did not have one in stock and had to order. Fortunately, they got it in 3 days (and given supply chain issues, I was lucky). Hopefully fixed by Monday.

That sucks, glad it's worked out, though. For the future, you can still get it in gear as long as you are moving. You just need to match your engine revs to your speed. You can just put the revs a bit higher than what you think they should be for that gear, then let the revs fall while you put a little pressure on the gear you want. Once the they get close you'll feel it start to mesh and you can push it in. Not good for your synchros, but may be better than being stranded in certain situations. Once you stop though, game over.
