Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Probably being a bit heretical here but has anybody put steelies on a 996 and if so where did you get them? (And how well did it work out?). I'm taking an "outlaw" view here so no raspberries please.

POST 3Original post

I suspect you'll have to have them made for you, in which event you can have what you want, but no raspberries from me.

POST 4Original post

Various 17in and 18in steels from VW, Merc that could be utilised with adaptors to fit. Most are quite narrow though. I have some 18in Amarok steels on my VW bus that are banded to 8.5 and 9.5in but the offsets wouldnt work for a Porsche and they are 5x120pcd. There are other aftermarket steels like Tuff Torque or Terrafirma that could be adapeted but again nothing with Porsche PCD. Its doable but not straight forward. Note they are quite heavy as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362228416287

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the links and comments provided, very helpful up to a point. I suppose I was thinking that somewhere there might be some after market retro style steelies available in 17" or 18" sizes like those that were fitted as 15" etc. to the older 911s. I can't see any such thing on line so I guess that's it. Certainly as a possible winter tyre solution they'd perhaps be better than ruining a good set of alloys in the bad weather. Cheers.

POST 7Original post

I don't know about that. Alloys work just fine in the winter if they're properly painted and lacquered; what I would avoid is the diamond-cut and other polished finishes where winter salt can get under the lacquer and discolour and tarnish the finish on the wheel pretty quickly. I have for example got painted OZ Leggera's on my wife's car in the winter as the pretty factory rims - which have a black painted and diamond cut finish - wouldn't survive for long.
