I recently bought a 1999 911 Cab Tip with 67,000 miles on the clock, my first 911. Overall I love the car, but with the recent warmer weather I have noticed when the roof is down a slight popping or back firing type noise coming from the exhaust on the overrun. It is not that loud and does'nt happen all the time and with the hood up you can't really hear it. Does anyone have any idea's? Thanks Mike

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

fuel consumption affected?? I had this on a different car when the idle throttle switch broke, car always thought it was on throttle...
Not that I have noticed. Car idles OK and has no problem under accleration. I wondered if it could be a small hole in the exhuast close to the manifold?
Expect I'll get moderated for saying it, but it sounds like a zero cost option for improving the sound of a 996 8)
