After a year of ownership and various issues getting my key programmed, I finally got it done today by an indy! Now that it is working, I have a few issues. 1) The car automatically locks after a few minutes, how can I change this? 2) Is there a way to have the car beep or audibly let me know it's locked / unlocked? 3) most importantly.... When I unlock the car, the seat goes all the way forward! Even though I have the key and M1 programmed to my desired seat position. Any ideas how I can fix this?

I'm surprised that an Indy could program your key. I thought the Porsche dealers were able to charge exhorbitant fees for programming because Indys couldn't do it. I'll try to anwer your questions. 1. I don't think you can change this. I believe it's a security feature (a silly one) in case you unlocked the car and then went back to get something and forgot to re-lock the car. My car has this feature and I would have turned it off if I could. 2. The car will only beep if something is left open and you try to lock the car. You can make it beep each time you lock the car if you simply leave the center console lid open. Alternatively, you can do what I did many years ago and make the side markers blink when you lock the car. The side markers are much easier to see since you're usually walking away from the side of the car. The signals will blink whenever you lock the car but you have to be looking at the front or rear of the the car. I did this re-wiring over 20 years ago and it was pretty simple, and I'm glad I did it. For instructions, just do an internet search for "Sandy's side marker light hack." 3. I can't help you here. On various cars that I've owned, if you unlocked the car using a particular key, the seat, steering wheel and mirrors would all move to the memory settings for that key. I never liked this feature and got the keys to stop doing this. I didn't think the 996 has this feature, but my keys don't do this. I'll check the manual (which I assume you don't have) and see if I have it and how to turn it off.
I checked my manual, and you can indeed have a particular key remember the settings for the seat and mirrors. See the attached scan from my manual. Also, it states that the dealer can program the automatic re-locking feature from 4 to 120 seconds. But it doesn't say anything about turning this feature off.

Not sure of the exact settings page, but its probably somewhere in here or 1 of the other alarm/seat memory pages/somewhere in piwis..? Here is a screen shot of piwis 3 in simulation mode. I got it here on the forum in the 'piwis for $75' thread. If you have IPAS codes and key codes, keys can be programed with piwis3. PIWIS 3 is a complicated involved software that takes some experience with it to navigate correctly and get all its benefits. As such, not sure where all your other option settings are or even if they are available but this is the software to use to find them.... See if you can still get this software from the 'piwis for $75' thread and search around in there till you find what you need.... Its probably mostly all there.... Finding the above seat memory settings took about 2 minutes

thanks for this, I also have the PIWIS 3 from that thread! I've never plugged it into the car though. I'll ask in the thread to see if anyone knows. I'm wondering if it's "storage of position 1" or "approach to nominal position"
