Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A friend is going to sell his turbo to buy a new one and offered it to me first. He bought it new, less than 20K miles, Tiptronic, perfect condition. So the question is, how reliable are these cars in the long run? I would drive it a lot more than he did, but don't want to go broke doing upkeep. I can do some things, but I would guess the dealer or a good garage would be required at times. Torn between keeping my currant 914-6 or selling it and going for something newer.

POST 2Original post

Because the car carries the Mezger engine, it is pretty bullet proof.

POST 3Original post

I purchased a Turbo because of the Mezger and known stoutness of the model. No specific idea if there are any known soft top issues and outside of the Coolant hose potential issue on these motors... I went with it because of the amazing value for the dollar and reputed reliability of the model. So coolant hoses (may or may not pop out as epoxy ages on the pressed in fittings) and maybe radiators at some point due to age/usual debris buildup if not cleaned much. Then just normal maintenance.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
