Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car is a 987.2 manual. The gearstick makes a very noticeable rattling noise and vibrates when accelerating in 5th gear. Would this most likely be engine or gearbox mounts, gear linkage, or something relating to the gearbox? It seems to be even worse when accelerating at higher RPMs, but as far as I can tell it only happens in 5th gear.

POST 2Original post

If your exhaust pipe is sagging this can indicate mounts are sagging. I think mine has a saggy front mount as the rears looked fine when I removed them. But I've not heard anyone suggest saggy mounts cause vibration. I had some weird shifter clunking when my 996 gearbox internals were on their way out. But this was only noticeable coming on and off the power. I'm genuinely stumped here, sorry.
