Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here goes... Is it possible to have the PCM system turned on but not the radio/cd part of it. At the moment if I dont want any sound but do want all the other facilities I have to turn it down. Seems a strange way go about things. So whats the answer, or is it buried in the manual.. :?: On a slightly different note had the car (2004 996 C4S) for three months now. I still get such a buzz taking the cover off (yes its got a cover on in the garage) which only gets better when I start it and then better again drive it. I, like most, have probably made some iffy decisions in life but on the odd occasion I make an absolute cracker. That cracker is currently sat in my garage....

POST 2Original post

I am having a smilar problem with mine. I also have PCM2 in a 04 C4S. I recently tried to get a Parrot handsfree phone kit installed and wanted to get it wired into the head unit so that when the phone rang, the stereo was muted and the sound came through the car speakers. The installer tells me that the head unit does not have a mute button so not possible. It seems strange that a 2004 top end car with a supposedly high end sound system doesn't have even a very basic functionlike mute. These stereos, have a phone function option (mine wasn't fitted with it) surely this must have worked through the speakers and turned off the stereo sound???? If you find a way, please let me know. POST 3Original post

Afaik, there is no mute button or otherwise on the PCM 2 unit. The only way to turn it 'off' is to turn the sound down. Annoying as sometimes I like to drive with the unit on but without any radio or CD. ~ Maxie

POST 4Original post

I though the unit auto-mutes when it's switched into phone mode?

POST 5Original post

Does it? I thought you needed to put in a SIM card into the tray first....? Not tried it myself but I shall when I get home. ~ Maxie

I was specifically referring to this: ie. aftermarket. I thought that the you connect the phone to the socket in the back, when the signal is raised, the phone function is activated and the stereo mutes. I know for a fact that it's possible to do this with a PCM 2.1 (without the telephone module installed) with a Parrot. I know the PCM 2 is different, but I'm certain it's possible to do this, as I've read other posts on here with people doing exactly that?
