Something very odd is happening on my '99 911...hopefully someone can give me some insight on what it may be. While cruising on the highway in 6th gear, the transmission pops out of gear on a fairly consistent basis. The shifter starts vibrating before it happens - sometimes I can "force" it to stay in place, but it's definitely wanting to pop out. I bought the car used, so I don't know if the shifter/cables/etc are stock or have been upgraded. Anyone else have this problem, or know what might be causing it? Thank in advance!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Worn out shifter cables. The stock ones do not adjust much. Common problem.
