Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having now been out in my PTS 4RS for its first drive yesterday, i wanted to ask if anyone else has experienced wind noise from what i can only describe as side carbon intakes? It was a windy day and i noticed from 55-75 (Within UK limits ) lower speeds nothing.. I am used to all types of noises in my GT car i own but this was a rather (oh that's crap)

POST 2Original post

Drive it a bit more. The intake makes all sorts of sounds. Not noticed wind noise, but the intakes sound like they’re sucking air at times.

Not sure why I bother…. This forum has really gone down the drain. Shame .

To be fair it is a difficult one to give any sensible comment on. For what it’s worth my 4RS did not suffer from any unusual wind noise issues. It had lots and lots of NVH issues but not wind noise. At motorway speeds and on light throttle openings there was a lot of tyre noise, and general engine noise but none of the intake blare that love it or hate it is the signature of this car. The build quality of my last couple of Caymans, a GT4 and a 4RS, have been fairly poor to be fair. Certainly felt much less well screwed together than my old Cayman R. Not sure if that is just a bit of bad luck or signs of a deteriorating build quality? Sounds like something is not quite aligned if it’s that noticeable.

The WP package has intake with scoops that do protrude out into the air stream… so might be a side effect of that?!

I would always try to add a potentially useful 2p but I also am a bit lost with this one. I saw it said here (so it must be true) that the minimum noise level difference that the human ear can define (subject to frequency) is 3dB which is a doubling of the energy in the noise, distance from the noise rapidly reducing this. Certainly the air intakes on the GT4 are very close to the ear and carbon fibre is extremely rigid potentially transmitting and resonating higher frequencies quite efficiently .... ??? So maybe Weissach does make a difference to this ? I am guessing that Porsche will know and to be fair ... the noise was something that they celebrated at launch.

GT4 clubsport was a noisy beast inside the cabin. The RS is more so in an exciting way. The roll cage will ping, sometimes rattle. The carbon air box is noisy, I love it, part of the experience. 4RS was not designed for a quiet ride.

Perhaps Finmac could advise what his non WP 4RS is like.

I have been following this thread with interest and hoping my no WP car is a little quieter as the intakes don’t stick out the same as the WP ones. (One of the attractions of the non WP car for me at least). I will advise once my car gets PPF and I take delivery later in the month

If you want a quiet car, the RS is not for you.

Had a 991.2 T manual from new decent touring package overall for a 911 at the money but let down by poor gearbox and average brakes imo. Latest Ts overpriced new imo.
