Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had my C2 Tip Cab for 2 years, do about 6k miles pa and love it. The Porsche warranty has just expired and can't be renewed as car is now 9 1/2 years old. OPC has gone over it with a fine tooth comb, fixing everything covered by the warranty that was amiss (much more than the cost of two years cover!) and the car runs well – serviced for another year. To change to a face-lifted 996 would, I reckon, cost circa £8-10k (and I don't think would give me any more motoring pleasure). So should I change so I can get the peace of mind of another Porsche Warranty (and I'm too far south to benefit from the northern independent that offers the service plan warranty – sorry can't remember their name) or stick with the car I love and hope that nothing breaks – that's my dilemma, which I'm sure is a similar position to many other 996 owners. I've been mulling this over for the last six months and can't make my mind up what to do, so the forums thoughts/advice/recommendations would be really helpful and much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Have to say I'm going through the same... had mine for 3 1/2 years and will either have to pay off a large balloon in January, or p/x it. Trouble is, I really don't think a facelift 996, or basic (cheap) 997 is different enough to warrant the change. Have to admit I'm tempted to try something completely different for a while... Have looked at a couple of RRS Supercharged recently (bargain at <£30,000 with low mileage!) However, in your position, doing only 6,000 miles pa, I would possibly go 'back' to a 993... No good for me, as I do 15-20,000 miles per annum and depend on it as my daily driver. Alternatively, stick that £8,000 in a 'fighting fund' in case the engine goes bang, and then if it does get a 4.0 litre Autofarm replacement
