Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I've recently succumbed to the dreaded bore score at 57k miles in an 03 C4. I'm about to go with a set of Hartech Nikasil liners and their own pistons. Has anyone here had the same fitted? I had a good chat with them on Friday and I'm just curious to know if there was any noticeable difference in the engines running or performance afterwards, or if it will be exactly the same as before. I'm not planning on a capacity increase, just keeping at 3.6 Thanks

POST 2Original post

Is it burning LOTs of oil or is down on power? If not I'd run it for a bit. I know of someone adding 0.5 L per 1000 miles and has done so for a few years.

POST 3Original post

Hi We have just this weekend got my brothers 996.2 3.6 Tip back on the road after a full engine rebuild. We went for the 6 liners plus their coated pistons, and their modified larger bearing IMS. (See thread titled "Enter the 996.2") The car was bought as a non runner so I cannot speak about how it was before, but it runs really sweetly now. It's still being run in, but I think we made the right decisions in going for the above. How far you go with respect to replacing parts as your rebuild progresses is up to you. Are you doing the rebuild yourself? All the best Berni

It's been noticed on a rebuild to remedy an oil leak. Just makes sense to do it now and not a couple of years down the line

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'll have a look at that thread. No, my local independent are doing the build. It had new EPS IMSB, main and all other bearings, chains, guides, tensioners, secondary oil pumps, AOS, water pump, LTT, coil packs, plugs and a few other bits last year when the IMS let go. I think only the crank and valve gear will be original by the time it's finished 🙄
