Finally got the 996.1 C4 off the axel stands for a trial. All went well but am still planning suspension overhaul imminently. The NS passenger door thinks it's open, which leaves the warning red spot on the dash button. If I pull the opening handle it is extinguished (until the door is opened). Seems like reverse polarity!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry to note that your post has not been responded to though has been viewed 123 times... I have no idea of the location or type of device that senses your door position, though if a rubber button type of switch in the door shut, then if you operate it with your finger while observing the dash warning, you might be able to get a better idea of the problem. Some old type switches can operate intermittently dependent on the travel of the plunger section of the switch... Hope I have not muddied the water.. :?:
I'm afraid i didn't reply as this is a bit of a common issue and i thought it would have been answered .. sorry . The door lock assembly has something like 5 micro switches in it .. these tell the alarm control unit the position of the door , wether its locked , secure locked , open or closed . These switches with age start to stick and give false readings .. i expect when you lock the car you will get a beep from the horn .. that's not to tell you its locked that's to report the car has been locked with an item open .. Glove box , center console cubby lid , boot bonnet and doors ... drivers door with this fault and you can't lock the car . Usual repair is a new door lock assembly but the first point of call is a tester connected then look at fault codes .. as this is alarm based which is under the passenger seat and regardless of its a cab or not if this unit gets wet it can cause issues . Wiring again is a possibility but over all 90 % of the time a new door lock will fix this issue .
 Thank you for the helpful contributions. I'll look into the common fault first and report back...
