hi I have a 2004 c4s and it leaking coolant from looks like oil cooler next to gearbox any ideas as a thought the cooler was just for oil

I'll assume you have a Tiptronic transmission from your comments. The Tip has its own oil to coolant cooler assembly mounted on the side of the transmission; so yes, it can leak.
