Is it just me.... but I always keep my eye on 996 prices. C2 climbing nicely, c4s and c4 rising at a slower rate..... turbo stagnant or dropping slightly. Wtf. Surely the 996 turbo is the performance bargain of the decade... why arnt these moving north, whats peoples thoughts.

It's an ugly and failed car from Porsche. Yes, it has a good motor, but it does not help. You can take lipstick on a pig ......
100% disagree
Where are you looking?! 😅🧠definitely one of the best looking cars of its time! Prices will always fluctuate, I'm happy with mine!
Something to celebrate if you ask me. It's an affordable dream car. I guess the Turbos were more expensive to start with, M96 engined cars got too cheap and have recovered but seem to have found a level now.
Whilst I don't want to turn this into a love or hate of the 996 it certainly wasn't considered 'One of the best looking cars of its time"? At the time probably considered one of the worst! The 996 has taken many years for people to love it looks and it's taken tens of years for it to be considered an icon, by some, and when I say some it's normally the owners. The 996 is what many would consider a divisive car in looks. The turbos/4s always had the better looks and had something about it. The 996 has grown on me but probably taken around 10 years. I just couldn't look past the ugly front end. But once I see past that it was as great as the other 911's. I love it now, even the lights!! Back to the plot. On the pricing I suppose it's what someone is willing to pay, and if there over priced then the market will reel it in. I've not seen prices go down on the turbo's?? Everything I've seen has been high? I've seen turbos in the £40's and £50's which is well overvalued in my opinion. I think they should be sitting around £35k, or what I would pay (slightly different). If you have seen some go down then I'm guessing they've been up for sale a long time and the owners just want to sell them on. If that's the case then I'm guessing there the overpriced ones in the £40's and £50's.
I think it looks dated, and most people hate the lights.
That's an opinion from when it was new, it's definitely got better with age. As above prices are a mixed bag really, depends what work has been done and the spec of the car. I sold my C2 2003 for 27k this year (I'd say that was top of the market), I think turbos bottomed out around a similar figure.
All 911s look a bit odd in my view, part of the interest. I was watching a historic car race in the summer and remember thinking that the 60s 911s looked peculiar compared to contemporary cars, like some weird soviet thing. I find the 996 interesting because it challenges, like the Jaguar XJ and Mercedes CLS etc.
Currently the world wants NA over Turbo's .. so supply and demand I think all new cars that now have turbo's are linear turbo's where this is old school, nothing then take your head off Turbo. I believe they will have their time again (as everything is circular)
In line with all 996s the 996 Turbo bottomed out in 2013 when a really good, below average mileage car could be had for under £30k. I know several people that paid less than £23k for nice cars. The 'bargain supercar' headline was well used in the Porsche mags at the time and caused asking prices to go crazy. By 2015 a decent car would cost over £40k and lead to this discussion thread. --> Would you pay £40K+ for a 996 Turbo? In later years the market settled down but a 996T would still have cost a lot more than any 996 Carrera. That gap has narrowed a little over the last year but is still quite significant for cars with similar mileage and history.
Yeah that's it ðŸ‘
Which does not explain why the other 996 models are getting more desirable...
Where as some see that as a good thing. Must be an age thing. I wanted one in my 20's and that was the shape. I like it because it's becoming a classic and a nice mix between modern and old school. The first water cooled, but early ones are still analogue, which I prefer as a driving experience, over traction control and fly by wire. I also have a 955 Cayenne Turbo WLS (E81 Powerkit) and that's got a massive reputation for being ugly. I actually love it as it looks like a stretched out 996 shell, instead of the modern generic SUV shape seen on all SUV's from Ford to Kia.
Ugly? ..Subjective, but Failed? First i've heard. When the car was released it received glowing reviews and pretty much flattened everything put up against it (including a F360). It IS 99.9% a 997.1 turbo minus the round headlights....so 997 turbos must have been an utter fail as well.
