I spent ages sandpapering the number tab on the engine and the engine number is M96/01-66X-07611. Now, I just read the service book (properly) and the sticker inside thr front cover has engine number M96/01-66X A9600 Does that mean its had a replacement engine? Is there any way of finding out, and if so, when it was done? Thanks Phil

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

The sticker text M96/01-66X means it is an M96.01 engine, Cix Cyl, Type 6 (NA), Model Year X (1999). A9600 means it is a Tiptronic (Automatic), type 96.00. The engine numer on the crankcase (Serial Number 07611) looks to match the car. The serial number is not shown on the options stickers, but you should find it on your V5C registration document.
