Morning All Ive been looking around for a rear spoiler to personalise the car abit. Im aware that I would also need to get the front splitters fitted on. Im curious, at the moment I have the automatic spoiler which raises pending speed ect... If I was to remove this and a fixed spoiler fitted on, would I face "spoiler failure" led coming up on the cluster? ...how to get rid if so and what do you guys do in general with the cabling...? - As the engine lid also has a fan built in, would this pose a problem? ..Im looking at getting a GT3 spoiler sorted and couldnt see any fans on it... - Any idea what sort of weight would be added by sticking this in the rear? Im not looking to make it "look" like a GT3, more to give it a bit more stance on the road. Alot of questions I know... ...Can anyone shed some light on this? Cheers.

I know you say you don't want to make it a GT3 look a lik, but.. I think the spolier alone may look a little strange ? And with the side skirts giving the car a lower stance , I would put them on too ! Fan - The boot lid will have the holes for you to swop the fan over ! Automatic Spoiler - Sorry i have no idea ! I love the areo kit on the 996 ! Don't forget to take before and after pic's !
The swap is a fairly simple process, can be fiddly apparently but you don't need a degree in engineering to do it... You can get a wiring harness from OPC which stops the light coming on and connects the fan. Make sure it's the aero kit lid not the GT3 lid if it's OEM, the fan and air inlets are on the wrong side. Weight wise, no idea, some have carbon fibre wing and GRP lid, some are just an insert instead of a full lid.
Cheers guys- I quite like the idea of side skirts, any idea where to pick it up from? I know OPC does these, but their prices are not worth the second thought.. The spoiler im looking at is on fleabay - item 120308525869 (certainly hope there isnt going to be a 911uk bidding war lol). - Im sure not whether this is the aero kit lid or or GT3 lid, presume it the aero kit as the seller mentioned it not a porsche part. Have asked for a pict underneath...
I will check mine this evening and let you know what side my fan is on ! (I thinks its on the left (as you open the boot))
Looks good, it's MKI though, be prepared for plenty of abuse from purists  Personally I like it more than the MKII... It's got the adjustable wing too which alot of aftermarket wings don't have. Looks a good price too, even for buy it now, considering you're looking at between $1000-$1700 from the States with shipping at $300-$400. Have you found a good (and relatively cheap) body shop to do the paint work?
Good point... I have just noticed yours is a face lift 996 (3.6) ! I would look for the MK2 spoiler, or an RS spoiler !! Come sale time, unless you take it off, it will put a lot of people off having a MK1 spoiler on a MK2 !
afsar, you have a PM.
I believe that you need to alter the front skirt at the same time, as just adding the wing at the back upsets the aerodynamics. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Yup, you're right, too much downforce on the rear with no compensation made at the front will make it 'squirelly'* at higher speeds... * is that a word :?
Got your PM Daniel - Thanks Thanks Stuart/GD - Its got me thinking... I think I will hold out for the Mk II turbo spoiler or the RS spoiler if can get hold of one (the RS spoiler does bloody look good!)... well the fleabay add is no longer available, guess its been sold - nevermind If only parts prices droped the way the cars have.... Thanks for the info - Will certainly keep looking...
With regard to costs. There is so much demand for good spoilers that you'll never have problems selling it on if/when you sell the car. I believe that one on Ebay went for £600 cash (it wasn't me!). Just keep the original deck lid stored for that time. You may also want to check www.http://www.gettydesign.com/gallery.html for aftermarket designs. All their stuff is made from GRP but apparently good quality and not like that stuff you get from Taiwan. They have good feedback on Rennlist, especially with the 964 boys, the fit is good and easy prep work for painting. They also seem to be the chosen bodykit supplier of certain midlands Porsche shop, but at massively increased prices. Oh, and as an example, to ship to Heathrow you're looking at $350...
