Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have always loved Porsche 911s but never thought about buying one until a friend said that he knew someone who had a car for sale and I would get a good deal.I viewed the car and bought it.The car was : 2003 Porsche 996 Carerra facefift,One owner,96000 miles long motorway commute, Full OPC stamped service history at supplying dealer with all bills and original invoice,Cobalt Blue,18" Carrera alloys ,225 and 285 tyres, litronic headlights and washers, sport seats,Rear wiper,Tint screen,PCM2 with Navigation, phone and handset, year M.O.T. and Tax,TRACKER MONITOR. As the car needed a 96k service I had it done at OPC at a cost of £814.They had a good check over the car and could only find the front tyres wearing slightly more on the inside edges and slight oil staining RMS but looked ok just keep an eye on it. As I wanted a warranty after some research I decided on Warranty Works 3 year deal for £1350.After reading policy documents it is basically the same as the OPC warranty but has a limit of £2500 per claim up to the value of the car, this should cover most items except the engine and I have the view if it was going to go it probably would have by now! Purchase price £20750 cash. Insurance £350 fully comp agreed value of £26000. The car is as new condition inside and out. As I only do about 4000 miles a year the mileage will come back to me and I may nearly get my money back in 3-5 years. I recently sold a car that I had for 3 years, never spent any money on it and sold it for £3000 profit. The Porsche is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and I should have bought one years ago.

Welcome Sounds like a good deal to me... Lovely spec and colour (IMO) and as you say the mileage will come back to you... Depending on when it last had a clutch, it may need one of them at some stage - in which case you will get the RMS done at the same time. The warranty package should cover you anyway for that... (In fact, that might be your first claim thinking about it, then you'll only have to pay the parts cost of a clutch  ) Enjoy... 8) Oh, and... :useless:

As long as you're happy, that's what counts! Welcome by the way!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am very happy thanks. Still on original clutch.Apart from servicing it has had one set of brake discs and pads, new PCM2 unit 11/05 and Porsche battery 10/07

POST 5Original post

£1350 for a warranty that will only ever pay out £2500 is a bit stinky.....apart from that looks like an ok deal.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The warranty will pay out £2500 per claim up to the value of the car so could have 10 claims of £2500

POST 8Original post

Yep....3rd year is free but it only pays £60/hour (VAT inclusive) so will not cover any Porsche specialist.....but then again it's a cheap warranty so you get what you pay for and clearly less cash than the OPC warranty. Regarding the OP - if you think it's a good purchase then it is  .....but please don't think that you have an agreed insurance value in excess of the current market price unless you have paid for the insurance specialist to come and assess the car. You can put any value you want on the insurance documents but they will not pay out on what you tell them.

Nice age and spec to make up for the miles. Treat her well!
