Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have searched this forum, looked through PCM manuals and I can't find anything about the SOS button on the PCM. Moreover, this button is present on the PCM module I am thinking of getting for my Cayman S , but is NOT present on the PCM on my wife's Cayenne S. So my questions are, since it is obvious this button is for contacting Police/Fire/Rescue in the event of an emergency: 1. How is the signal transmitted if the car doesn't have phone modules? 2. Is this button only found on those PCM modules that come equipped with the Phone module? 3. Why is there no reference to this feature in the PCM manual? 4. Why is this button not present in other PCM systems on different Pcars? What am I missing here?

Okay, 27 views and no one has any insight? Can anyone at least point me in a direction to find the answer. I have recently done searches on other sites and the "SOS" button isn't in a single manual that I can find. All I have been able to find is that the "SOS" button is similar to OnStar except it isn't monitored. Well, I kinda figured that. I was more interested in my other questions. Seems odd that Porsche would put a button on PCM and not have it in the PCM manual.

Well take a look at post 26 here: http://www.planet-9.com/showthread.php?p=123479&highlight=sos#post123479 That is as close as I can get you. I know nothing.

POST 4Original post

Thanks SF. I saw that when I did my search but it leaves many questions unanswered. I guess my internet search goes on.

POST 5Original post

I have PCM and I believe (without any documentation) that you would need to have the phone option for it to work. Try the renntech.org forum. Loren there is very knowledgeable. Good Luck.

POST 6Original post

Thanks I will do just that. I figured this is the case to get it to work, but I find it curious that the PCM on the Cayman has this feature and the PCM on the Cayenne doesn't. At least in my case.

POST 7Original post

The SOS or "Emergency Call" function as the PCM manual calls it does require the phone module. As far as I can see the SOS button just dials 999 (UK). According to the manual in some countries you dont have to have a SIM card in the phone, although how it knows which network to use is a mystery

POST 8Original post

Ian B is correct. It requires the Phone option be installed. I have the Phone in mine (I even got a new phone account w/ T Mobile so I could get a SIM card for it), and even without a SIM card, it will dial 911, as both T Mobile and AT&T allow 911 calls from non-subscribers. Greg
