Page 103 Upon completion of phases I + II, the component to be processed is ready for painting. Partial painting or spot painting can now be performed. Partial painting - this involves painting the entire body part in question - is generally not a problem with solid paints. However, if color shade differences that exceed the permissible tolerances (particularly with metallic paints) are to be expected and if the area is not delimited using trim strips or edges, it may be more effective to even out color shade differences by spot painting generously within the area. Spot painting can be considerably more efficient and more economic than time-consuming color shade matching. The sprayer makes this decision based on experience and depending on: - The age of the original paint finish - The condition of the original paint finish (weathering) - The cost of color shade matching - Solid or metallic paint finish - Position on the vehicle G 4.2.7 Topcoat system information You can choose between four different paint systems: - Glasurit(R) HS 2C Paint System 22 line Solid paint finishes using single-layer process - Glasurit(R) HS 2C Paint System VOC 22 VOC line (420 g/l) Solid paint finishes using single-layer process, VOC-compliant - Glasurit(R) Basecoat System 55 line Basecoat paint for solid/metallic/pearl/multi paint finishes using double-layer process - Glasurit(R) Basecoat Paint System, water-based 90 line Basecoat paint for solid/metallic/pearl/multi paint finishes using double-layer process, water-based Different procedures are used, depending on specific country requirements and the workshop equipment/setup. G 4.2.7.1 VOC-compliant paint finishes VOC painting procedures are completely adapted repair processes. The relevant Sections describe the differences in materials and processes. G 4.2.7.2 Water-based paint finishes Water-based technology for topcoat paints is currently used along with the conventional solvent-based technology. Given this, a particular color can have the same color name, but may be available both as a water-based paint and a conventional paint. The general preference should be for water-based paint finishes. The reasons for this as well as further information on the use of water-based paints can be found in ->  3.1.3 "Water-based paint technology at Porsche". G 4.2.7.3 Using water-based paints The use of water-based paints for repair paint finishes does not depend on the paint system used for production paint finishes. Water-based paints from the repair paint system can be used both for repair paint finishes for a conventional production paint finish as well as for repair paint finishes for a water-based production paint finish. NOTE: The basic requirement for a successful repair paint finish - irrespective of the repair paint system to be used - is that the correct repair paint, i.e. the repair paint that corresponds to the paint code on the paint data plate, is used. G 4.2.8 Clear lacquer system information The paint manufacturer provides the sprayer with a number of clear lacquers. These vary with regard to quality, environmental aspects, user-friendliness and time required. For further information on the possible combinations available, from topcoat to clear lacquer ->  G 9.2.4. See: Section G9/G9.2 - Product Overview See: Section G4/G4.3 - Overview Based on Repair Level/Materials G4.3 - Overview Based on Repair Level/Materials
