Attachment “A” – Work Procedure for Service Action W103
Information: The inside of the rear lid should be checked for corrosion in the area where the outer surface (skin) is
mated to the inner support (folded seam).
There are three scopes of repair operations:
Scope 1. No corrosion found. Preserve folded seam as a preventive measure.
Scope 2. Minor corrosion found. Remove corrosion, primer exposed surfaces, seal folded seam, and
repaint rear lid.
Scope 3. Serious corrosion found. Replace rear lid, seal folded seam, and paint.
Scope 1: Spray wax preservative on the folded seam inside the rear lid. The preservative should be applied at
the rear edge, on the sides down to the hinges and on the edge of the upper lid lock part.

--- Cleaning cloth
--- Naphtha solvent or a similar cleaning agent
--- Covering, e.g. film, paper of similar.
Note: The two spray cans are enough to treat approximately 15 lids. Reimbursement at
1/15th the Warranty rate.
Preparation:
The lid must be clean and dry in the areas of the rear and lateral seams, and at the lid lock upper part.
The lid must be at room temperature. Clean the folded seam at the rear and sides and the edge at the
upper lock part if necessary with naphtha solvent.
Note: Do not wash the vehicle immediately prior to performing the work. Water could enter and
remain in the seam inside the rear lid.
If it is cold outside, the vehicle must be placed in a warm room until the lid warms up to room temperature.
Repair Procedure:
1. Open the rear lid.
1.1 Completely cover the rear of the vehicle (engine, fenders, window etc.) with paper or plastic film.
Caution! The covering must be placed completely underneath the open lid in order to catch any
dripping anti-corrosion fluid. If the vehicle is a cabriolet, make sure the fabric and rear window is
completely covered. The anti-corrosion fluid and wax preservative could stain it.
1.2 Shake the spray can vigorously before use.
1.3 Spray the anti-corrosion fluid on the following areas on the inside of the rear lid. When spraying,
hold the nozzle (the tube) of the spray can against the edge of the seam.Start by spraying on the
seam on the left and right sides, from the lid hinge to the rear edge (arrows a, figure 1). Then
spray from one corner of the rear folded seam to the other (arrow b, figure 1).
1.4 Allow the sprayed on anti-corrosion fluid to act for approximately 1 minute. Afterwards, wipe
away excess anti-corrosion fluid with a lint-free cloth. Wipe the folded seam as well.
