Instrument cluster K20 911 Turbo (996)90 Diagnosis/troubleshooting Work instruction Display OK If not OK 1 Check CAN bus leads, ♦Switch off ignition ∞ Ω Repair wiring har- CAN-high and CAN-low for ⇒ Step 2 ness ♦Pull plug A off the instrument short circuit. → End cluster ♦Pull plug off the Tiptronic control module ♦Pull plug off the PSM control module ♦Pull off steering angle sensor plug ♦Pull plug off the DME control module ♦Measure resistance on plug A of the instrument cluster between pin 15 and pin 31 ♦Measure resistance between pin 3 and pin 4 on the plug on the DME control module. 2 Check CAN bus lead, ♦Measure resistance between ∞ Ω Repair wiring har- CAN-high for short to plug A on instrument cluster pin ⇒ Step 3 ness ground 15 and ground → End ♦Measure resistance between pin 3 and pin ground on the plug on the DME control module. 3 Check CAN bus lead, ♦Switch on ignition 0 V Repair wiring har- CAN-low for short to B+ ⇒ Step 4 ness ♦Measure resistance between → End plug A on instrument cluster pin 31 and ground ♦Measure voltage between pin 3 and ground on the plug on the DME control module. 4 Determine faulty control ♦Switch off ignition The fault is remedied The fault is still module by disconnecting the present ⇒ Step 6 ♦Reconnect all plugs to control plug connection of a modules control module. ♦Pull off plugs to the control mod- ⇒ Step 5 ules (except instrument cluster) individually and read out the fault memory of the instrument clus- ter and check whether the fault has been remedied. 5 ♦Replace the control module which was last disconnected → End from the CAN bus. 6 ♦Replace instrument cluster → End 90-7 page 2 9025 Fault code 9101 9101xk20 Printed in Germany – 8, 2001
