Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have a tt and replaced all three rads earlier this year.

Suggestion
OPC told me to check level after a run and simply top up with water cos it will only need a splash.

Suggestion · Original poster
I bought the car back in May of an OPC who replaced all the rads so it cant be that surely?

At this time of year use a coolant solution of 50% water and 50% coolant.

Suggestion
You could use water to top up to get you out of trouble but really should be topped up with approved coolant.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was giving the car a good detail yesterday and popped the back open to give it a good clean. I noticed the coolent level was quite low?
Is it a 911 thing to have to occasionally top it up?
Can I top it up with just a bit of water?
Sorry for the dumb question, I haven't had to do this since I was 17 :floor:
You could use water to top up to get you out of trouble but really should be topped up with approved coolant. More importantly though you should investigate why it has dropped. Could be a leak!! Most likely will be radiators. There is lots of info on this site. I have a tt and replaced all three rads earlier this year. Depenant upon your knowledge you can do it yourself. Dependant on car age and milage you might get it covered by warranty....Mine wasnt but after "enthusiastic" negotiation with Porsche GB they made a "fair contribution" to costs!
I think it may have been low for some time. I bought the car back in May of an OPC who replaced all the rads so it cant be that surely? It lives in the garage all week and there is never any water there?
So I can just top it up with some tap water then? I imagine it will only take maybe a cup?
Open the back up and have a look around the coolant bottle for signs of whiteish residue on the bodywork, this will indicate a cracked bottle/cap common on older cars 9-10 years old but yours may have a leak.

had a rad replaced - under tesco warranty! - this week. OPC told me to check level after a run and simply top up with water cos it will only need a splash.
Definitely definitely when the engine is cold! At this time of year use a coolant solution of 50% water and 50% coolant. That should see you through the winter.

Nice one, cheers for that
I've never actually bought coolant, can I just get any brand or is there a "Porsche Approved" one like all other things :frustrated: :floor:
Any coolant will do. I didn't even know there was a Porsche Approved coolant which would give OPCs their God-given right to charge you 3x what a bottle of, say, Halfords coolant would cost you.

Actually, you do need to get the correct grade of coolant and use the correct concentration as it includes a rust inhibitor and the anti-freeze property has to be stronger than for most cars because of the length of pipework and higher risk of frost exposure under the car
Agree with Wattie, its a long life (red stuff) as it is designed to stay in the car for 5 years, doesnt have to be from Porsche, as long as it is to their spec, any good independant car parts supplier will help you out.
I was told that you shouldn't mix the red with the blue anti-freeze. Apparently the mixture attacks rubber seals - don't know how accurate the statement is, but not worth taking the risk! :what:
