Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

HI all could any one give me some advise on exhaust systems please, i have a 1998-996 3.4Ltr and would like to replace the exhaust system including the manifolds. I would like a s/s system that gives the car a bit more of an exhaust tone but not louder than 110 Db so that i can still go to track days. Also thinking about and induction kit any sugestions
Thanks

I fitted the Oettle replacement mufflers and am delighted with the outcome. Best mod made on hte car and only just over £300. My impressions and a basic fitting guide based on my experience are to be found here:-

Many Thanks sounds !!! a good option and, do you know if i wanted to replace manifolds is it an engine out job, or just very tricky in place as i am presuming the manifold studs will be us.

There was also very recently a group buy of official Porsche Sports Exhausts (PSE) with loud on/off switch mounted in dashboard from official porsche dealer which could interest you
http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=38536
PSE is rated best overall sound, it is a bit (quite a lot more expensive than the Oettle exhaust, but has electronics etc for switch, and sounds incredible)
I am due to have one fitted shortly to my 98 C2 3.4.
The price was negotiated down from £2,300 inc VAT and fitting, to £1,450 all in, by group member FraserB, including loan of brand new 997 PDK for day, or collection and delivery if you dont want to go to Colchester
I suspect if you phoned them up you could probably tag along with the deal
Hi Shaun, if you call Mike Stebbings at Colchester Porsche on 01206 855500 and tell him you're interested in joining the goup buy of Porsche Sports Exhausts he'll sort you out. As Edward said, they will either lend you a spanking new car for a day or two or will collect and deliver back your car with exhaust fitted. follow the group buy link Edward added for full info and lots of 'pros and cons' discussion. Suffice to say seven of us have taken advantage. Shout if you want anymore info, cheers
110dB? I think you need to be looking at a max. of 104dB to get on any UK trackday, having said that you can find a few noisy days at this time of the year
A PSE will be 98dB quiet, 104dB noisy
A Fabspeed induction will add 3dB, I'd assume the K&N et al types will do the same.
My 4S on a cool day hit 107.8dB, needless to say with that I was screwed on most UK trackdays unless I hit 'quiet'.
As a comeback for the Oettle route (and without in any way wishing to detract from the PSE brigade) but you can do a lot with the £1000 plus saved in fitting the Oettle units. Especially if you do it yourself, which is not hard. Cheap even if you get someone else to do it.
So you can't switch it off. I can honestly say I have never spent a living moment when I would have switched mine off or even considered it.
Can any PSE owner genuinely say they regularly switch it off?
And more pertinently, would not take £1000 in exchange for never doing so again?
