Suggestion

If you are happy with the colour of these and it's just chips or rub marks I'd recommend get some leather dye from Dynamix, this works on the plasticised coated sections as well as the leather.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

anyone got any advice on replacing some interior trim on a facelift 996 Tip? the handbreak, gear lever, ashtray and transmission tunnel are a little scratched on my recent purchase- are any of these parts replaceable by a not too skilled hand? and were (and how much) would i find the bits? thanks.

POST 2Original post

Have a look at www.design911.co.uk Those parts are fairly easy to replace as a DIY experience...

POST 3Original post

you'll need a torx 20 and torx 30 screwdriver and a 13mm socket for the handbrake fixings pretty straightforward a job for diy i think... just when removing and refitting wrap the handbrake lever in masking tape to avoid damage..

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys- thats a great help... ...except i am staggered by the cost of the parts! dont suppose there is anyway to recover or refurb the current ones rather than completely replace them?

POST 5Original post

yes i must admit the interior trim, especially in plastic, whether painted silver or not is a genuine 100% rip off, even taking into account the Porsche name, there is no other way around it, there is nothing technical about it at all (whereas making a car drive/handle etc at 170mph is technical hence why those parts cost). You can however have the parts sprayed by a local body shop, or yourself if your technically capable, with a bit if sanding and finishing on the scratches, and primer, assuming its not too bad. Ebay often has these kinda parts, esp if your prepared to import from USA or europe (although check re: lhd etc.)

POST 6Original post

If you are happy with the colour of these and it's just chips or rub marks I'd recommend get some leather dye from Dynamix, this works on the plasticised coated sections as well as the leather. I was very impressed with quality and endurance of the dye!

POST 7Original post

What colour is your trim? I have a grey centre console and gear lever (and handbrake too, but that is a little worn on one edge) lying about for which I'm open to offers. A friend already pinched the ashtray, and gave me his which is a little scratched. You could have the console and ashtray painted in bodycolour- I had mine done in blue to match the bodywork- looks fab!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

robertb... interesting offer- especially since my interior is grey. i'm overseas right now, but will be back in the uk in a couple of weeks- i'll take another look at the condition of my bits (if you excuse the phrase!) and see what to do in light of all the suggestions here. if i deceided to go with your offer whats the best way to get hold of you?

Send me a PM via this site if you decide your bits aren't up to scratch...
