PPPPS - Porsche GB recommend the extra 1ltr of oil with every service (it says so on the menu), so OPCs just claim they are carrying out the orders of the boss.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, I have my car in for service. It has an OPC warranty. I have been told it needs new front discs and pads - they were replaced 1000 miles ago. Leaves need removing from radiators - I have said I'll do that if they are going to charge me. I have also been told it needs £3K of warranty work - ignition coils (are they changed on a Major service?) 2 oil leaks (My garage floor is bone dry) and some other things I can't remember. I am convinced none of this work is necessary - I know for sure the brakes aren't and have told him to get stuffed. I think they are exploiting the warranty because theyve got no work on. I won't get my car back till next week. I pity the owners without warranties who are potentially being conned.

POST 2Original post

I had mine in to a certain OPC a little while ago for its major service, told them not to clear the debris from the radiators, but they still done it! :x but i didnt pay for it! Coils etc are warranty (advice thanks to the peeps on this site  )...they charged me and also gave me a litre of oil even tho there was a brand new unopened litre of oil there!.....schmucks! :frustrated: They also said the pads need changing....must be some sort of standard text they tell al customers! Funny thing was that whilst i was there, along with other things get my refund, one of the service guys was on the fone to another poor sod like us also telling him he needed new pads and discs! Looks like the work has dried up, and they are saying anything to get more work through the doors, even if its not required...... :food:

POST 3Original post

All of the issues you mention are very commonly reported as 'needing attention' at service times by unscrupulous OPCs (and unscrupulous Indy's as well I dont doubt). Sounds like you know your stuff and have quite rightly told them where to go. Its a shame when any garage does this - if we were told all of this stuff needed 'watching' but wasnt essential, then we might believe them more and would send the busines their way when/if it did need doing. Its weird that they dont realise that customers are not mechanics, and so we need and want to trust them. Yet they have no desire to build that trust by giving good advice. PS - the only one to watch is the coil packs. There are 6 of them and over time (and due to moisture) they can crack. I found out cos the car was misfiring and my engine warning light came on. PPS - I cant resist: can you name the OPC? PPPS - rads do need to be cleaned out, so get your pressure washer out and do it. PPPPS - Porsche GB recommend the extra 1ltr of oil with every service (it says so on the menu), so OPCs just claim they are carrying out the orders of the boss.
