You get a brake check done and they fit the correct parts then all subsequent replacements are free for as long as you own the car...

OPC in Koln measured mine properly and said it didn't need discs, but this was a month after a UK OPC had said they needed changing from looking at them without even removing the wheels during a visual health check when the car was in for other work!

Do you have to change discs and pads at the same time?

My understanding is discs out last pads so is changing pads on their own fairly normal?

there is a thread on here with loads of useful info on exactly which parts you need when replacing pads and discs - which may be helpful if you are doing them yourself or buying the kit for a local garage to do.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks...
Not at an OPC, but in the real World yes!
Check for deep scores in the disc, thickness, and excessive outer 'rim', but if all those OK, then just put pads on.

(PS. Visual Health Check is trade terminology for 'our workshop is empty, car sales are down the pan, and we need to find some work to make some money somehow :hand: )

Quite a few people buy the textar / brembo stuff as its the same as the porsche stuff, but much cheaper.
Thanks guys.
I've seen the post listing parts etc but seeing as my discs are not near minimum I thought I'd just get the pads and parts, works out at £280-ish. Was just confirming that it was ok to do it this way.
how much
you can get the same parts from eurocarparts just not in a porsche box for !/2 that price....
textar pads is what porsche use and exactly the same as euro carparts
That is Textar pads, with all shims, pin kits, and sensors +VAT and shipping.
Eurocarparts works out at about £10 cheaper (without shipping) but they don't have the pin kit...
Thanks for the offer Ed, hopefully I'll be attempting this on friday as I've got Rockingham on Sunday. First time changing pads for me so it will probably be an all dayer :?
Hi Stuart.
When you say that you've "got Rockingham this Sunday" do you mean that you've got a track day in your car? If so I wouldn't recommend it as you really need to let the new pads (and discs?) bed-in before you go thrashing it...?! You might find that you have difficulty stopping - which I always find is essential when it comes to going fast.
Adrian.
Thanks Adrian, printed out these threads ready for a good 'bedding in' tomorrow after I fit them :thumb:

you'll be fine bedding them in
normally discs last at least twice as long as pads, even longer...
Eurocarparts Discs can also supply Porsche OEM discs
bought mine via a known specialist and they had them supplied from ECP, as they left the invoice in the box
As usuall I found out about ECP too late, I'd already ordered and paid from another '911' part specialist. Then they wrongly delivered a inner wheel lining instead, finally got the parts today. Yesterday morning though I had to go to Wembley business park, next to a massive ECP building! :wall:
