Jamie - noticed the rust during the deep clean a couple months ago - just haven't managed to get photos on here since.

It wasn't much of a deep clean - look at the mud on your seals man!

Totally agree that they may not be standard, though I can't remember exactly what a standard set look like.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was deep cleaning the car the other week and noticed some rust bubbles on each sill, at the back of the metal kickplates. I just wondered if anyone has seen this before.
Also, as you can see, the kickplate on the passenger side doesn't sit flush, so before I go and embarrass myself by asking about corrosion warranties and so on at the dealership, does anyone know if this looks like it's fitted correctly? My concern is that a previous owner/third party has glued these on wrongly, thus trapping dirt and causing the rust. Obviously that wouldn't be covered by the anti-corrosion warranty, which seems fair.
Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks!
Hi,
I've got to be honest, they don't look standard to me and I suspect that they have directly contributed to the corrosion!
Can you please post a picture of the entire kick plate?
How old is the car?
Thanks for the quick reply.
It's a 2002 52 plate facelift C2. I've taken a few more photos, two are the pax side and one, as you can see from the seat controls is the driver's side. Sorry about the slightly dodgy angles and lighting conditions, with the brightness of the sun this morning I had great difficulty getting rid of shadows and getting the camera to focus!
Totally agree that they may not be standard, though I can't remember exactly what a standard set look like. Even if they are, as I say, I suspect they've possibly been DIY fitted leading to the corrosion. Car is going into a bodyshop soon for a dent and some scratches someone put in it in my work car park so considering getting this done at the same time.
Thanks again!
The stainless kickplates always look a bit cheap IMO, so they may well be OE.
I replaced mine with carbon fibre ones which go much further up the door pillar, and look really good.
My sills were corroding in a similar way with the standard plastic ones that I had, but the indy who looked at it said it was nothing to worry about.
Agree with GD.....as convincing as they look, they appear to be non-OEM. I think you might find the original black plastic ones underneath with the 'Carrera' script being in silver. That's what I have on my Targa.

Thanks for the replies guys, gonna try to get them off at some point soon and make sure nothing nastier is hiding underneath. Might look into those carbon fibre ones Robert.
Jamie - noticed the rust during the deep clean a couple months ago - just haven't managed to get photos on here since. That mud on the seal is what people with beards and MGs call 'patina' isn't it?
Hi,
Here's the OEM ones:

The finish looks slightly different.
Also have a look at design911.co.uk, they have pictures of both OEM and non-OEM.
