My car has a vibration from the rear. It really sounds like a loose piece of plastic vibrating once driving at 40 mph over rough pavement. It really sounds like a rattle that is constant. I have removed the screen hiding the back trunk area but it has not helped. I think it is coming from the right side but it's hard to be sure.
Many have mentioned a loose right rear strut...how can you tell if that's it? I'm 350 miles from a dealer...really hate to drive so far for a rattle.
As an aside, I had Milltek headers and cat back installed. The rattle preceeded the exhaust change. I do love the Millteks. They are not much louder than stock and there's a definite change in performance. Love them.
My car would be nearly perfect if I could only get rid of the vibration.

Have you checked those little cargo holders on the right and left side? A long shot but stuffing some towels in them "might" help. Sounds like a plastic on plastic rattle rather than a strut from what you describe. Adjusting the hatch bump stops is another alternative.
Also get someone to sit in with you and have a feel around in the back as you drive (or get someone elso drive, if you trust them).
For your information, I had a constant rattle from the rear and it was from the 3rd brakelight. I had the whole brakelight unit replaced under warrenty and the rattle is now gone.

I think I have found the problem! The plastic door to the oil fill seems to be the culprit. I drove around w/ the door open w/ no rattle, closed it and the rattle returned...I will put some foam adhesive strip on the lid and it should stop the rattle.
yet another source of rattles to look for in the Cayman. This is really my first complaint of the car after 6 months.
Thanks to those who offered solutions. This is such a great web site.
same rattle
I have the same rattle now ... will try to drive with the oil fill lid open to see if this helps ... this car has been nothing but a nightmare since I bought it ... funny how Porsche owners seem to think this is acceptable ... I have a had 3 different rattles, the rubber in my brake light came off, my ac fuse blew --- all in three months ... I havent had this many problems with a car (BMW's, Audi, or Lexus - all put together) ... in my life ... it's sad ...
If you stick around this forum long enough you will see that problems are not acceptable to us. Some Porsche owners might find problems acceptable but not us.
Compared to other cars that I have owned my Porsches have had a very good track record. I had an Audi A6 that was a royal pain in the rear. My wife had a Mercedes E320. It was one problem after another.
I hate that you are having problems with your Porsche. I hope you get them fixed because if everything is working like it should a Caymna is a fantastic car.
