Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check cost out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check cost out' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How difficult/expensive is it to retro fit the Porsche Sat Nav into a C4S.
Im finding exmaples with the spec that I want but missing the sat nav, any advice?
If it's a MOST (fibre optic) car - MY2003-) then the retrofit kit for PCM2 is £2414.71 +VAT, and fitting time is about 2 hours. On top of that, there is the telephone module, which Porsche don't list a price for any more, so I'm not sure if it is still available - it used to be around £850.
If you want to get a Porsche warranty then retrofitting PCM2 is your ONLY option for SatNav, apart from a portable system - TomTom and the like. If the warranty doesn't bother you, then an aftermarket double-DIN satnav system will give you far better functionality than PCM, but is harder to integrate into the car. Basically, you would have to remove the fibre optic components of the Porsche radio and start again. Still far cheaper than PCM2 though.
If it is an earlier C4S (non-MOST) aftermarket kits are much easier to install - almost plug & play. As far as I know, PCM1 retrofit kits are no longer available, so if you really wanted one then you would have to source a second hand unit.
Richard,
Once again for the usfel information on the kits and costs.
Jon,
I have a PCM1 on my car and I like the way the whole unit it integrated with other functionality such as fuel economy, range and various other useful functionality etc.
However, the Sat Nav is a bit dated (even PCM2 excluding the very latest 997 type) dont have birds eye view etc. And, the buggest bug bear for most Porsche owners is that the updated Nav disks are either no longer available and supported by Porsche or are incredibly expensive. Its actually cheaper to buy a brand new Tom Tom than an updated disk!!!!!!
Saying that, if I were to buy a new Porsche I would almost certainly want one with an integrated Sat Nav!
All the best,
Rob
Richard - Thanks for the advice and details, very, very useful.

Exactly what I like to see in my cars, essential to me really.

I have heard this elsewhere that they aren't the best, can you get hold of copied disks with the updated maps or is there security blocking this? My problem with TOMTOMS is that I like my SAT NAV to be integrated so I think my only option is to just sit tight until I find an example with my desired spec, and price of course!
It isn't as comprehensive as the PCM2 Trip features, but the OBC functions of the facelift 996s give you range, consumption, etc. Personally, I'd sacrifice the PCM2 trip for the integrated iPod, Bluetooth, touchscreen, video, 3D map views, and cheaper map upgrades of an aftermarket unit.
I dont know about copying the disks, have never tried. May have a go as a 'backup' for my existing disk.
From what I understand on other posts here and on Rentech, Porsche no longer supply the updated disks for earlier PCM's and they will not allow the other disk manufacturers / suppliers to supply disks either.
Somewhere on the forum there were some articles about disks for (possibly) Vauxhalls worksing but I have never tried that myself. If you end up with a PCM then it my be worth looking at.
However, I do agree with Richard that retro-fitting a PCM would not be as comprehensive or good value as an aftermarket option and I would sacrifce some of the original car functionality for enhanced Sat Nat etc.
Rob - Porsche released a map update for PCM1 early this year. But as you say, the SatNavShop in Birmingham do a modified version of the latest Opel maps at a much reduced cost.
Hi Richard,
Didnt know that - thanks for the update. I will check the cost out for both and maybe do an update.
Do you know if they will both work on the 8 bit unit, I thought the Opel maps were for 16 bit only when I saw a thread some time ago?
I understand from the Rentech thread that I would have to upgrade the Sat Nav as well using an upgrade disk, do you know if this gives any further functionality?
Thanks,
Rob
The Porsche update is £400+...........
The chap to speak to about the Opel disks is Gil Keane at Satnavshop/Quicksilver Automotive on 0121 773 7000 or 07973 216682. I'm pretty sure he does the maps for the 8-bit version, and can supply the software update CD. I don't think it gives you any additional features though.
