Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Still working on my 996 C2 1998 3.4 Tip Tronic. All the braking system has now been renewed , just the bleeding to do. Now to the engine, Engine and gearbox is out of the car on a workbench, I need to remove the gearbox to have a look at the the IMS bearing. Do I just undo the bell housing bolts and pull it off , Or do I need to get to any secret bolts, I assume it has a torque converter, and that is probably bolted to the flywheel, So am I correct in thinking that it stays connected to the engine when I pull the gearbox off. It has been a long time since I have removed an auto box, and never on a Porsche. Paul
