Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Well, had to have my baby towed this morning. I left a stop light in 1st gear, went to shift into 2nd gear (manual tranny) at about 20 mph and I heard a resounding "SNAP" and the shift lever went "completely limp". The car was locked into 1st gear. My guess is the shift linkage (cable) snapped loose somehow. This is my 3rd warranty claim at 14,300 miles and 18 months of ownership. Paul

POST 3Original post

Yep, that's it! The guy that towed me (Porsche preferred vendor) said he just picked up a Cayman yesterday at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend as well....same problem. Paul

POST 4Original post

As a wrap up to this incident: 1) One of the shift linkage cables (there are 2 of them) was severed. This was caused from the T-bar connection of the cables being out of alignment and created a "torque" where the cables were essentially fighting each other with each shift. 2) They replaced both cables (the other cable appeared fine / no damage). 3) Re-centered the gear shift. Everything is back in working order... Paul

POST 5Original post

I had a problem where some of the time I would need to double clutch transitioning between 1st and 2nd. Shift linkage cable was re-aligned and no more problem.
