I checked the chassis and its ok but the wheel seems to sit 3/8 inch further forward can anyone pass me the correct measurement from the sill line to the tyre.

Suggestion

Check on MCs rebuild thread as to how that is incorporated into the car - but essentially all of the suspension hangs of it.

Suggestion

You could perhaps use a tight string line from front to rear wheels to try to get the wheels aligned, then compare side to side...?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just checking just brought my first 996 project to add to the 928 the car has had a bit of a ropey life having taken a knock to the osr wheel. I checked the chassis and its ok but the wheel seems to sit 3/8 inch further forward can anyone pass me the correct measurement from the sill line to the tyre. im going to strip the suspension and replace as needed

POST 2Original post

I can't help with measurements, but the rear subframe could be bent. Check on MCs rebuild thread as to how that is incorporated into the car - but essentially all of the suspension hangs of it. Lots of photos.

POST 3Original post

Measuring from a point on the bodywork seems to be a less than ideal datum...? Perhaps measuring between the front and real wheel centres could work better, though the steering would have to be straight.. You could perhaps use a tight string line from front to rear wheels to try to get the wheels aligned, then compare side to side...? Good luck.

POST 5Original post

Wasting your time trying to do that. Just get it up on a hunter alignment and check the castor. Everyone's measurement will be governed by tyre size too. If anything I'd measure from wheel centre to wheel centre on either side.

POST 6Original post

Pull the wheel off and have a look for anything bent. Plenty of pics on Google to help you along. After that, maybe try a wheel alignment. Just start with the easy options. If your not sure, take a few pictures and stick them on here. A lot of us here have some experience on these this be so if somethings not right, we might be fit to see it
