Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, Proper newbie here who's just bought a life long dream car (996 C4S) and is starting to worry a little about it being nicked. (Not for any good reason, mind!) She's behind a fence/gate on the drive and not easy to see - blocked in overnight and sometimes during the day by my other car. Just wondering - as she's an occasional use sorta car - is there a fuel pump relay I can just pull from the relay board to completely immobilise her? I will just keep it in the safe in the house with the keys if so! When going away on holiday for a few weeks I used to remove a couple of HT leads from my Z4 Coupe... just in case! Any bright ideas? I saw on Design 911 that they do sell a fuel pump relay which I assume must be on the board in the footwell. Thanks, Josh

POST 2Original post

Hi Josh, Welcome to the forum, you better get some pics posted or you will get the mandatory stick. There are so many options on security yes as you say a decent auto sparks could secretly locate a switch in the car that would stop it starting or you could put up a camera facing the car. There are trackers companies that can also stop the engine as soon as the warning goes to them. Obviously the tracker has an annual fee or some you pay 3 years and get lifetime of ownership. but it not only stops the chance thief but can track it if its stolen by pros on a trailer. good luck whatever you decide and look forward to hearing more from you. Phil :thumb:

If you take the fuse board cover off ( right kick panel o/s/f footwell) there should be a sheet saying all the fuse locations , you could then pull fuel pump fuse or dme fuse etc. Dont pull any alarm fuses though as with out the ignition on the alarm will trigger. Same goes if you ever have to change the battery btw , ignition on then disconnect battery.

POST 4Original post

If anyone wants to steal it they'll either lift it onto a flat bed or turn up in your house looking for the keys - in the latter situation it's probably better they can find said keys and make off with it. If getting it back is a concern then make sure it has a decent tracker type system on it. Blocking it in with other cars etc. or making it difficult to actually get out of it's parking space is the best way to put anyone off IMHO. Mine has been stolen with the keys twice. Once in the UK from a hotel car park and once in Bulgaria. The former we just went and got the spare set of keys, SMS'd the car for it's location and went and got it. The latter we paid the local mafia go between 500Euro to go and get it, which they did in less than two hours including the time taken to explain why stealing it wasn't on. In the UK at least when one is nicked with the keys it's generally parked not far away in a secluded spot to see if it has a tracker or not. If it's still there two days later they'll drive it to the docks for export.

POST 5Original post

I glad my life is slightly more boring and long may it continue that way! Funny that you just found it and went to get it.

POST 6Original post

I have a bit of kit on the car which shares the loggers GPS antenna and has a sim card in it. If I text it then it responds with a message containing a set of co-ordinates, popping these into Google maps then shows exactly where it is. The saving grace these days is Joyriding appears to have fallen out of fashion so a lot of cars stolen are going to be punted outside of the UK or used in some form of crime so the person stealing them doesn't exactly want to rag them into the ground immediately.... which gives a good window of opportunity for recovering it!

POST 7Original post

I have supplied plenty of these trackers over the last couple of years, there are a few threads about them around. If there is demand I can put a group buy together, just need a minimum of 10 names. £55 including delivery, vibration sensor, siren online tracking included. MC

Following the theft of my uninsured £6.5k motocross bike last year, I did extensive research into security products and trackers etc. In order to help out the motocross community protect their pride and joy I recent,y set up a new business supplying trackers and other security products. One of the trackers which I supply is a self contained unit with an internal battery that lasts up to 90days. It is magnetic and us triggered either by vibration or movement. One triggered it will message your smart phone with a GPS location on Google maps. It can also be hard wired with a relay to switch off the fuel pump on command from your smart phone. Ideal for motocross bikes which don't have a battery supply or anything else that needs protecting. As its self contained it can easily be hidden anywhere in the vehicle and easily moved from one vehicle to another. Here is my Facebook page illustrating the tracker. https://www.facebook.com/MX-Security-183576542001290/?ref=hl
