Sent it away for a new case and refurb...looks lovely but the remote function still doesnt work so phoned Option4 up who repaired the key to be advised it needs programming to the car...

When I bought my car recently the "main" key fob did not work to open the doors remotely but the "spare" set did open and close the car however, the switch was held on with tape to create the connection - this has subsequently parted company but I am hopeful I can resolder a new switch and it will continue to work - maybe the main set will benefit from a resolder too?

I have one key which was in daily use for 10 years and was knocked around, but the other sat in a locked safe for 10 years and was mint.

The duplication method is not often used amongst Indys , you would need to phone around your local ones to see if any offer it ..
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

I was originally going to get two new remotes but I'm now leaning toward just getting a single new remote since the 2nd key will be used so infrequently that I'm sure it will become excommunicated.

Checked on here and the internet and tried the various spin around on one leg 10 times whilst pressing the remote buttons and unsurprisingly this didn't do anything other than use time I'll never get back!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

...so my second key remote function stopped working!

Internet search again suggests that a new key head with the code is required as no independent can reprogram the key fob without a code
So is the only option to let Porsche pull my pants down?
Thanks kindly...
All i can say is how i fit a new fob ..
I need IPAS codes for the car , these can be obtained from porsche .. you need to prove you own the car so a V5 and photo id and they will give you a printout of all the security codes for your car .
Some of these codes are what i would enter on a tester .. Autologic or piwis to gain access .. the transponder , the pill can then be coded so the car will start ...
The fob though from new has a long number attached to the new fob which needs to be entered via a tester .
get this wrong and it wont work , there is no second attempt .. as soon as its entered it then rolls the code onwards .
There is a method where the new fob can be cloned with an old one .. not something i know about im afraid ..
To me .. i don't see how a firm that has repaired it can say it needs coding .. transponder yes to start the car but not a fob ... neither opc or indy can do this .
Technically if its transmitting the same code it should work .. there is the usual reverse battery .. dance around the car tricks to try but my feeling is it's not going to work ... never does for me anyways other than the battery reverse .. and that's about 10% success rate .
An Indy can code a new fob but i'm afraid the main cost is the new fob itself .. Porsche make the money on a job like this .
Sorry young man
Does the key work with the car? Ie, can it open and start the car without it making lots of alarm type noise? If it can, that was enough for me for the second key.
I would urge you to contact

he did a fantastic job on our DME and immob + 2 keys combination.
I don't think there is anyone in the UK with more understanding of these systems than Jon!

This is the approach I take now. Fully working main key and a 2nd key that opens and starts the car.
A rarely used 2nd key will just die or lose its connectivity anyway. They really are rubbish. Nice little earner for Porsche.
...morning all and hope that this finds you well...
Yes the key opens and starts the car; however the remote functions are not working...
Fortunately my second key is fully functional...
Option4 who refurbished the key insist it can be reprogrammed but my local OPC in Exeter and Independent Williams Crawford are not convinced but will give it ago?
If you have one fully functional key+remote, and a working spare key/immobiliser, then I'd concur with others suggesting to not bother fixing the latter unless you need (and will have) BOTH keys in regular use.
The remotes are designed to disable themselves and become essentially irretrievable if one is not used for a period of time (I understand 1024 button presses). If you drive to work, and hit the shops even once on the way home, that's 6 button presses - 6 months of that and the 2nd remote becomes useless. Even when aware of it, it's easy enough to let it slip long enough to be caught out by this.
I have one key which was in daily use for 10 years and was knocked around, but the other sat in a locked safe for 10 years and was mint. Both keys still unlock and start my car, but the dealer claimed neither remote could be re-coded to the car. I was originally going to get two new remotes but I'm now leaning toward just getting a single new remote since the 2nd key will be used so infrequently that I'm sure it will become excommunicated. I will save the extra $375 for the next time the main remote falls apart and needs replacement.
Jon at JMG can do it but as said above you will need a key. I think he is cheaper than OPC - but contact him. I found him very helpful. There is some thread on her where he opines. He will do it via the post ( so doesn't need you to drive down to him) but as others have said he will need the module from under the seat.
I have an identical issue. When I spoke to Jon we determined that as I was in Ireland that it was as cost effective to just go to OPC and avoid shipping issues.
...Thanks for the helpful views guys...
Porsche really are a pain in the arse sometimes...my daughter has a 14 year old Honda Jazz (been in family for years , shared around like a box of sweets) asked me if we had another key...rooted around in my 'car box' found it...worked straightaway and didn't even need a new battery...
Anyways...I'll stick with one working key and a spare
955 key duplication in Scotland
Greetings all,
Its been over a year since I bougth a used Cayenne S 955 (2005) 4.5l. It came only with a single key fob. And lately was contempalting to see options for making a duplicate key, in case scenario. (the previous owner told she expected second key form previous trade seller and with so much following up he neevr given it, perhaps it was a goner in first place, so not possible to try this option)
The gen1 key fob is with two buttons. Managed to order a new aftermarket keyfob with blank blade and chip for £14 with delivery from china, used chinese webshopping of the billionaire.
Seen the coloured logo on the proscheshop.co.uk website but could be worth only after cutting and duplaicating the code ont he new key fob.
Two auto locksmiths are unable to reprogramme prosche, and one of them offered to do a valet key blade for £80.And on request advised they wouldnt involve if all keys lost case and it will be a dealer job then.
Does anybody have recommendation for new aftermarket key duplication based on the current working remote key, V5 document and address proof?
Based in Aberdeen so travelling for this reason to South England is futile and as expected the local OPC is of no help and prefer to do this outside from them.
Any words of wisdom appreciated.
The duplication method is not often used amongst Indys , you would need to phone around your local ones to see if any offer it .. most im guessing like my garage would use Piwis and the IPAS codes with a new fob .
Cayenne can be a little more tricky to code a key .. if doing the new fob replacement then a wait of 5 mins is essential otherwise it will not work .
Thanks for your reply. by sheer density of population I guess the options at south are many as compared to the population of 220k here. Will keep contacing local indy's to see if anybody doing the key programming.
Having said that i seen youtube videos of kit usage of simple transponder cloning, may be in other parts of the world. that was simple Read/Copy/first key/newtranspondereing added and cycled in te ignition. that simple it was.
Morning all

There are videos on you-tube showing this. The micro-switches are £1 ea on Ebay.

To give you an idea of cost to do the job properly, my indy quoted £395 plus VAT for two new keys programmed to the car.
