When I purchased my 996, it came one one working key, and one key that had a working blade but not remote circuit board or immobiliser transponder. I asked out my local OPC, for quote for a new key so that I have a working spare. However they said because I don't have the white tag that would have come with the original key I would need to buy and code 2 new keys, at £175 plus £75 coding each! Is there anywhere that can code a new key without having to replace both?

Tbh that sounds like a typical figure. I asked a similar question when I picked up mine from the indy last night and he was at £300 or thereabouts, to provide a new receiver and code two keys. I have all three keys but the coding on the remotes is out of synch. Hope this helps to reassure you that you are not been taken for a ride? Ray

I don't understand why they want you to replace both keys, because you can replace just one. Buy a new key fob (with transmitter and immobilizer pill) and put key blade from old key to it. New key includes white code tag, that needed in coding. Here in Finland a new key costs ~200 € and coding 100 €.

That's a lot cheaper than Porsche Guildford quoted me a couple of weeks ago. IIRC in the region of £375 including coding just for one key. Who gave you that quote, out of interest? I'd like to speak to them! Cheers, Lew
