They also replaced my hatch struts which were leaking, and my ash tray which was peeling badly.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

So I'm getting a buzzing/rattle coming from the engine area at 3000 RPM, when i'm giving it 1/4 or so throttle. This happens at exactly 3000 rpm, and stops when the revs go above or drop below. It happens in gear, and in neutral, but only when I give it a good push of throttle. Meaning if i slowly creep it up to 3k, i don't hear it, but if I give it a good blip, or accelerate at a normal rate in gear, I hear it. Any suggestions? I have heard everything from loose exhaust brackets to oil pump issues.

POST 2Original post

ive actually got a similar rattle/buzz at 3000rpm only its once in a while not all the time.

POST 3Original post

It's probably a loose heat shield. Does the sound go away when the engine is hot? One of my heat shields (rear right of the car) rattles and buzzes but stops once the exhaust is hot and the fittings have expanded. It's not really worth doing anything about, it's not causing any harm and is temporary.

POST 4Original post

It's still intermittently around when warm. It seems to have more to do with how hard i stab the throttle, than how warm the car is. I've still got until August on the CPO warranty, so I was making a punch list of "free fixes" that I was going to have them do before that gravy train runs out anyway.

POST 5Original post

My car has done this from new. It's not an annoyance unless you concentrate on it. I've been told that these engines have a natural harmonic period at 3000 RPM and the vibration is perfectly normal. I've long given up obsessing over it.

POST 6Original post

I wish I could remember if it did it since I got it. I guess since I have a rattle/buzz in the driver side door that's driving me up a wall, I might just be more "tuned in" to rattles now. Hyper Vigilance is my curse.

POST 7Original post

All of the Caymans I have had did this. Perfectly normal.

POST 8Original post

Well, "Perfectly Normal" for a Porsche . I'm starting to realize perfectly normal is a relative term. :thanks:

POST 9Original post

Brought it in this morning for this. Waiting to hear.

POST 10Original post

Well they were unable to find the source of the noise today. They thought it was a cam phasing issue, but apparently it was not.

POST 11Original post

So they did the oil pressure sending unit TSB that people on here talked about and they claim the noise is gone. I will pick it up tonight. They also replaced my hatch struts which were leaking, and my ash tray which was peeling badly.

POST 12Original post

I am having the exact same problem with my 99 boxster with 2.5L engine. Was the problem oil pressure sending unit? I think my boxster doesn't have such a thing.
