Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I had my heart set on a C4S when I was in the market a few years back and was moving on from a 986 Boxster S.
Leading evidence: 'Set on a c4s' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Set on a c4s' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I'm new to the forum and been keeping my eye out for the right 996 C4S with the intention to keep and maybe pass to the kids when I'm gone and seen prices rising at an incredible rate recently.
Do you think these will eventually drop to the sub £20k level did I miss the boat so to speak ?
Prices won't go down but there's currently 6 under £20k on Autotrader and one under £17k on eBay:

Prices of all 911s are higher than they've been for a couple of years and regarding the 996 have been discussed here recently.

In line with all 996s the C4S actually bottomed out in value in 2013 when good cars were available for £17k. Since then they've risen again slowly so from that point of view you 'missed the boat' a while ago.
They still represent great value for money and are already regarded as a modern classic.
ps. :welcome: to 911uk
If you're looking at cars pushing 20yrs old you're severely limited if you want something with low miles on.........and even more if you think they're acquirable for under £20k.
Inflation has been a factor, let alone demand-led price increases. A £17k car in 2015 would have to be £20k now just to be worth the same, in real terms. So in a sense, you've only partially missed the boat.. and frankly a few thousand here and there on the price is nothing vs the likely maintenance costs over the years.
If you are happy with a tiptronic they are a cheaper and more plentiful than manuals.
I've seen plenty of nice cars for around the £24k mark. I know of a lovely Hartech-rebuilt tip coupe that is/was for sale for £20k.
Might seem the obvious answer but why not consider other models in the range. C2 lighter & quicker than C4S or if its 4 wheel drive you want a simple C4.
I know lots of people think they want a C4S but that's generally because of internet hype but there's plenty other 996's out there in your budget range..
I had my heart set on a C4S when I was in the market a few years back and was moving on from a 986 Boxster S. Then I drove one and hated it it was just too lardy coming from the Boxster and not the 911 experience I thought it would be. Ended up with an early C2 which really hit my sweet spot. Granted the C4S looks lovely but go drive one see if its what you want in a 911 would be my advice and go from there.
